So let's start things off the way I normally do with a little bit of good old fashion gushing about a fashion show. So we're still in Spring 2010 people, but hey, shut up. This is Balmain. Now what this was a
bout for me, were the jackets and the jeans. I can't get enough of Balmain jackets. Everything about them screams bad ass! UGGGGG!! AND THOSE JEANS! TO. DIE. FOR. Additionally I love the shoes. They're so military chic fierce fabby wondrous amazing glamorous. Also, my girl Demi Moore appeared on the cover of W magazine in that little gold number and she looked pretty damned kicken. So basically this collection, albeit a bit of a one note, was for me, the epitome of rock star glam. So I'm all about it.

Now for a bit of a teach. So I know I'm guilty of it when I put together an outfit. I know alot of you are guilty of it. I get it. I understand. The economy bla bla bla. Here's the thing. Colorful shoes are a wardrobe staple for women folk, and it's time you all learn to accept it.

So here's the thing. The reasons why people argue that black and brown shoes are more sensible isn't unfounded. Yes. Between those two colors, you can basically cover every outfit you've got in your arsenal. Fine. Sure. But here's the thing. When you know how to do a colorful shoe, it's gonna make that mediocre ensemble explode into awesome town.
So here are my rules. First of all, It's totally okay to have a shoe that is unrelated color wise to an outfit. Yes the easiest and most obvious option is the red shoe. Yes. And it's fierce. But girls, A yellow shoe can do the exact same thing, and frankly is just as versatile. You have a whole gamut of fabulous colored shoes at the ready! You can get them anywhere! TAKE ADVANTAGE.
If you're worried about pulling this off, here are some options.
1: Pick a color from a pattern, and find shoes that match. This sounds tricky but here's the thing. The color doesn't have to be exact. Just get it close enough and the idea will come through. By picking a specific color from the pattern for your shoes, you're making that color in the pattern pop. So don't pick an ugly color. This is really the easiest way to incorporate visual interest into your outfit.
2:Make a neutral outfit pop with a bright shoe. The way I illustrated this, was by doing an outfit all in one color of khaki and one in black and white, but you can mix neutrals and have the same effect. this will really make the shoes pop.
3:You can do monochromatic. So this is what most of you fear because of difficulty. Here's the thing. It can look great. But it takes away the power of individual pieces of clothing and accessories and gives the power to the color. If that's what you're going for, then do it up. It has the potential to be powerfully fierce but can come off as ghetto fabulous. So be weary. This option isn't for the beginners.
4: you can go dual chromatic. this also has the potential to be a bit ghetto fab, but if you pull it off you can look super streamlined and smart. Make sure you pick two colors that are in the same family though, or else you'll something will look off in your outfit. Avoid two color combos like red and yellow, because of the potential for ketchup mustard comparisons.
5: Lastly make a multi coloured outfit pop with bright colored shoes in a complimentary color previously unrelated to the outfit. This is has the potential to be the easiest, way to incorporate a colorful shoe, as what ties it to the outfit is the fact that you like it.
Listen bottom line. Be adventurous. Try new things. It'll work out in the long run.
PEEE ESSSS. The suede shoe in the above Polyvore collection is available on Zappos for relatively inexpensive price, and comes in hot pink too!!
Lastly, in loving memory of my dear friend who's turning four hundred and thirty seven this weekend, I'm devoting this real person of style I love to Miranda. Truly a fashionista, she wears 70's collegiate inspired sweaters one day, ethnic frocks with fabulous embroidery the next, followed by tweedy skirts and satin pumps the day after. She glides effortlessly from style to style and her ingenuity leads her into some pretty amazing fashion masterpieces. She once taught me every possible way one could wear a scarf. She's truly one of my greatest inspirations.
Thanks for watching. see you someday...
